Charity on trial for fraud

According to a report posted by Lincolnshire Echo, the Lincoln and District Mencap Chairman Peter Childs, along with his wife Alison who is the Accommodation Manager for the same service, are facing trial for allegedly stealing thousands of pounds from vulnerable people within the service.

It was heard at Lincoln Crown Court last week that Mr & Mrs Childs are accussed of taking disability living allowance and life savings from a number of their service users, as well as allegedly over-charging them for utility bills over a number of years and obtaining an extra grant fund from the Lincolnshire County Council by inflating the number of their employees and the hours worked by staff.

These allegations came to light after Mr Childs suffered a stroke and his wife had to take time off work to look after him.
