Speakers Confirmed for the ‘Next Steps’ Transition Event – 28th March

Home From Home Care are sponsoring the first ‘Next Steps’ Transition Event, on the 28th March, 5pm-7.30pm, at the Social Care Exchange. The event will host a series of workshops focusing on four different topics to inform and educate parents, carers’ and professionals about the transition from children’s to adult services.

Paul de Savary will present the keynote speech ‘Transition into Adults Services from a Parents Perspective’ at 5.30pm. Paul is the Managing Director of Home From Home Care who, together with his wife Ann and son Hugo, have set up the largest family-led residential care provision in the UK over the last 12 years. Inspired by their daughter and sister Laura, who has learning disabilities, they were driven to making a difference after their quest to find suitable adult provision highlighted how poor many services were. Paul will share his experience of fighting to get the best for Laura and give his invaluable insight into the world of care.

Ann de Savary will be running the Transition Q & A’s. Ann is the co-founder of Home From Home Care and has a wealth of knowledge around Transition. As a parent liaison within the marketing team at Home From Home Care, last year Ann and the team attended over 160 events throughout the country at schools, colleges and exhibitions to educate and inform parents, carers and professionals about transition and the move from childrens’ services to adult services. The workshop will include a general discussion forum, sharing experiences from parents who have navigated transition.

Dawn Maplethorpe will run an ‘Introduction to Positive Behavior Support’. As the PBS Manager at Home From Home Care, Dawn will talk about her approaches to supporting adults with challenging behaviors. Dawn is a registered Learning Disability Nurse and has been qualified for 14 years, previously working in low secure units, local FE College and with the Local Authority.

Steve Green will complete the workshop programme with his discussion around issues concerning the Mental Capacity Act. Steve started working as a Support worker at Home From Home Care over 2 years ago, after 6 months he joined the training team and now helps to deliver all the induction and refresher training for new and existing employees. The workshop will cover the basics of the Mental Capacity Act as well as tackling parental rights and changes with law.
